About

VolCon is a national conference that focuses on promoting volunteerism among individuals and encourages volunteerism as a way of life. The third edition of Volcon is scheduled for April 23, 2017 at IIT Madras, Chennai.

Volcon+ is a shorter format event held in various cities where volunteers and volunteer managers share their ideas on Volunteering in under 20 minutes each.
Volcon + Mumbai is scheduled for December 2016 and Volcon + Bengaluru is scheduled for January 2017.

Time: 10 AM – 12.30 PM

An initiative by AID India and Bhumi, VolCon will bring together individuals from schools, colleges, corporations and non-profit organisations to share their inspiring stories, learning and experiences on volunteering across different spheres of lives. It will also provide insight into some of the best volunteer movements that have emerged within modern India.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has always intrigued him and the enormity of the task at hand due to our population is mammoth. Simply cleaning the stations was not the solution, they would be littered in a day’s time. The answer was to add beauty, colour and interest. The answer was to replace a negative with a positive.

Nityanand Jayaraman is a Chennai-based writer and social activist, and teaches environmental journalism at Asian College of Journalism. He is part of an anti-corporate collective called Vettiver Koottamaippu, and involves himself in mobilising youth to lend solidarity to social and environmental justice struggles around the country. He is an active volunteer in the campaign for justice in Bhopal and Kodaikanal, and is currently working to help stop a destructive coal fired thermal power plant from being set up in the hydrologically and environmentally sensitive Cheyyur taluk in Kanchipuram district. He is one of the key organisers of the Urur Olcott Kuppam Vizha.
